Aspire North is an SFC funded widening access initiative that supports young people from local secondary schools into Higher Education, anything from an HNC to a Degree. Aspire North works with selected S3-S6 pupils in the North of Scotland with the aims of imparting impartial information, advice and guidance, raising aspirations and awareness and promoting positive attitudes to learning.
Career Ready is a national social mobility charity running a mentoring and work experience programme for S5/6 students. They believe that the futures of far too many young people in the UK are determined by background, not potential and are trying to ensure positive post school destinations. Students are nominated by their school to participate and matched with a mentor from the world of work.
Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) North East makes it easier for employers and educators to connect and equip young people for the world of work.
As one of twenty regional groups in Scotland, the DYW North East team facilitate industry connections with all 28 secondary schools across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, with a particular focus on support for senior phase pupils.
Stepping Up is an innovative school transitions programme supporting young people who have learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorder or additional support needs to build and explore their aspirations for the future and achieve a positive progression into employment, education and industry training upon leaving school.
MCR is a school-based mentoring program for care experienced and disadvantaged young people facing significant challenges. The program supports P7 to S6 students through: Primary school transition support Group work in S1-2 Relationship-based mentoring in S3-6 Employability and career experiences MCR recruits and trains adult mentors to be one good consistent adult for each young person.
North East Scotland College (NESCol) is one of Scotland’s largest providers of further and higher education, and the destination of over a third of school-leavers across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire. The College offers a variety of Schools-College courses and Foundation Apprenticeships to senior phase pupils, and works with schools to raise awareness of College pathways through talks, tours, taster sessions and more.
RGU's Student Recruitment & Access Team offer a range of outreach programmes aimed at both junior & senior phase learners within the secondary school setting. We have dedicated staff that support all regional secondary schools, coordinating a range of activity both in school and on RGU's campus. Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is the national skills agency. We support people and businesses to develop and apply their skills, helping them to achieve their full potential. SDS careers advisers work in every state secondary school in Scotland and support young people throughout their time at school, starting from P7/S1 transitions and continuing at key times such as preparation for option choices and leaving school.
The University of Aberdeen is a world leading University situated right here in the North-East of Scotland. They are delighted to support schools and students from the local area.
