This activity allowed pupils to gain awareness of different roles and sectors, as well as developing their networking, communication, teamworking and presentation skills.
The EY Foundation partnered with DYW North East to deliver a day of employer-led activities for young people, which included a careers carousel and team challenge. The event was supported by:
During the careers carousel section of the event, pupils came face-to-face with employers. They spent a set amount of time with different employers, learning about opportunities within the sector and the employers' own career paths. Pupils also had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss their own potential pathways.
The group challenge part of the event involved 28 pupils from different schools across the region. They worked in small groups and were tasked with identifying improvements to the city centre. The pupils produced some excellent ideas, which they presented to a panel of employers before the event close.
As well as developing their teamwork, collaboration and communication skills, the challenge component of the event allowed pupils to work on a subject - their own city centre - which is of strong future importance to them.
This challenge was set by Aberdeen Inspired, Aberdeen City Centre's Business Improvement District, who were in attendance on the day.
"It was very refreshing to engage with the young folk and hear from them about their thoughts."
An opportunity for pupils to explore the question "How do we, as chefs create menus that promote Scottish produce and sustainability?"
A trio of specialists from Well-Safe Solutions brought the subject of sustainability and the environment to life for P5-7 pupils from Charleston Primary.
