A tour of Brewdog provided Harlaw Academy senior pupils with an insight into lab-based job roles within the workplace.
A group of S4-6 pupils studying Laboratory Skills were able to contextualise their classroom learning, courtesy of a visit to Brewdog's facility in Ellon.
Their tour included the brewery, lab and tasting room and gave them useful insights into health and safety in the workplace, microbiology and the different pathways into lab technician roles.
The young people gained an understanding of how the lab skills they had been learning in the classroom are used on a daily basis in the workplace. It was valuable for them to see a working lab outwith a traditional clinical setting; this highlighted how their learning of fundamental lab skills could be transferred across different industries.
The tour underlined the importance of health and safety in the workplace and how this contributes towards product integrity.
It also encouraged pupils to consider the food and drink sector as a future career pathway.
"I am so glad the visit went well. Our team are keen to work with and support our local schools and community."
Small group discussions with industry experts helped to prepare S6 pupils for their next steps.
A series of hospitality-themed activities encouraged S2 pupils from St Machar Academy to consider careers in the industry.
