Chemistry at Work event

Overview

The Chemistry at Work event, hosted at RGU and delivered in partnership with the Society of Chemistry, allowed young people to learn about the different careers connected with chemistry. It included talks, demonstrations and stand activities. A hydrogen bus was also on site for the pupils to visit.

Results and effectiveness

Over 400 S2 and S3 pupils from eight Aberdeenshire schools participated in lectures, classroom lessons and stand activities - all of which helped them to better understand the opportunities connected with choosing chemistry as a school subject.

Additional benefits

The networking aspect of the event - which was delivered in a career fair type setting - allowed young people and employers to engage directly. This provided the pupils with insights into individual roles and also supported skills development in areas such as communication.
