This was the first event of its type in three years, allowing young people, educators and industry to interact face-to-face.
The careers fair aimed to provide an opportunity for pupils and their parents/carers to engage with a wide selection of the region’s employers and Scottish universities and colleges. For the organisations who participated, it provided them with a chance to showcase their roles/courses.
Attendance was in the region of 500 pupils and parents/carers and the atmosphere was very positive. As well as learning about different industry sectors and companies, those who attended were able to discuss different pathways, including modern and graduate apprenticeships.
The pupils were provided with information on each participating organisation in advance, along with some sample questions to support their conversations with stand holders. Many of those who supported the event have since commented on how confident the pupils were in starting conversations.
“Just wanted to thank you for inviting us to participate in the Banchory Academy Careers Fair; I had a great evening meeting some very enthusiastic young adults who are clearly passionateabout their future and others looking for the right type of signposting to help them with their onward journey after school. All in all, a great evening!”
A sector awareness session for Alford Academy's S2 year group helped pupils to learn about the different careers within the creative industries.
Two linked sessions for S4 pupils helped them to understand different engineering roles, pathways into engineering and career progression opportunities.
